Dr. Maynard is a board-certified family physician and fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has practiced in Johnston County for 30 years.  He graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.  He completed his family medicine residency at the Washington Hospital in Washington, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Maynard joined our physician staff of in 2001 and has served as Medical Director since 2003. His special clinical interests are geriatrics, diabetes care, quality improvement, health maintenance, and healthcare policy.

Dr. Maynard enjoys helping people in our community achieve their best possible health.  He has a special interest in rural and agricultural health issues and making high quality and affordable health care available to as many people as possible. He enjoys helping young people with an interest in medical careers. He has served on the Johnston County Board of Health and currently serves on the Boards of the UNC Health Alliance and UNC Senior Alliance. He has been medical director at Benson Health for 22 years. 

Dr. Maynard and his wife Alicia live on a small farm in Johnston County. They enjoy gardening, hiking, reading, politics, nature-watching, and caring for their animals.
